According to established policies and procedures, and under the direct responsibility of a physician, the EMG technician will assist in all aspects of electromyographic diagnostic and nerve conduction testing procedures. This position will also assist with patient care management, administrative duties, and educational and research activitiesOperate EMG instrument to record electrical activity in peripheral nerves in the outpatient and inpatient settings. Adapt procedures to particular circumstances by adding electrodes in non-standard locations to devise the appropriate recording techniques. Assist medical staff during special procedures by providing extra monitoring and extra electrode application.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Explain procedure to patients and answer questions. Prepare patients for EMG diagnostic testing procedures. Remove and discard Nerve Conduction and Evoked Potential electrodes in accordance with universal precautions
Complete and submit billing forms in a timely fashion
Assist with the scheduling of EMG procedures and coordinate schedule changes with front desk staff
Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED required, with Bachelors degree preferred
One to two years' experience as an EMG technologist
Level of knowledge generally obtained through preparation and successful completion of the American Academy of Electrodiagnostic Technician Board certification.
Interpersonal and communication skills to successfully interact with patients of all ages and to contribute to a growing academic Department:.
Ability to independently perform CPR.
