This position is for a Research Associate to work half-time on psychosocial researchprojects involving interviews and assessment of pediatric and adult members of high-risk cancer families. The person hired will have a wide range of tasks including subject ascertainment and enrollment, IRB contact and updating, database documentation, handling quantitative and qualitative data, interaction with professional consultants and collaborators, and helping in presentation and write-up of the research results. The RA will have to be sensitive in interacting with subjects about matters of high confidentiality and potential distress. They will have to be efficient and organized. Graduate work in clinical psychology or related field is preferred; some research experience highly preferred. Familiarity with qualitative research, coding, and handling of research materials would be a plus. Also, familiarity with statistical analysis would be advantageous but not essential. Good interpersonal skills essential.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Working with PI on oversight of grant progress and on general maintenance of research effort.
  2. Subject ascertainment through interaction with research staff, sending of letters, consents, assessment packets, and telephone calls to potential subjects.
  3. Keeping IRB approval constant by filing initial documents and amendments, replying to requests for updates, etc.
  4. Handling of research materials.
  5. Maintaining project databases
  6. Familiarity with, WORD, Excel required; knowledge of Atlas-ti and possibly statistical software would be highly valued, but not required.


Job Qualifications:

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: At least a B.A. degree and preferably M.A. or graduate Ph.D. work. Some prior research experience would be expected.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED. Expertise in Excel, WORD (PC) expected. Some statistical skill or training and understanding of research ethics would be advantageous. Knowledge of Atlas-ti qualitative software would be a plus, but not required.

PATIENT CONTACT: Research assistant will interact with mothers (adults) and their children (minors and young adults).



Schedule:

Flexiblehoursas agreed upon with Prinicipal Investigator.

Because contact with young adult subjects may be easiest at night or on weekends, the RA will be expected to be flexible and willing to make calls or conduct interviews during those times, with subsequent adjustment of other work hours. Calls can be made from home if confidentiality can be maintained in home environment.
