Job Description

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse performs a variety of duties related to the care and treatment of patients.   Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities  
  1. Assists patients with ADL’s.
  1. Demonstrates proficiency with the taking of vital signs, treatments, procedures, and equipment as demonstrated by the skills checklist.
  1. Weighs, lifts moves, positions and transports patients as appropriate.
  1. Documents interventions and the patient’s response in the nursing progress notes.
  1. Communicates and documents changes in patient condition in a timely manner.
  1. Maintains a safe and pleasant environment for the patient.
  1. Promptly answers patient lights.
  1. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in each patient room.
  1. Maintains par levels of the clean supply and medication rooms, re-orders items as needed, keeps an accurate list of supplies, re-stocks shelves and maintains a clean environment.
  1. Demonstrates the ability to recognize and deal with emergencies.
  1. Completes identification and allergy bracelets on all new admissions as needed.
  1. Correctly adds forms to all records as needed (.i.e. doctor’s orders, progress notes).
  1. Exchanges needle boxes, replaces gloves in all patient rooms and participates in maintaining a clean, clutter-free environment.
  1. Assists in arrangements for patient transports at the request of the nurse in charge.
  1. Demonstrates competency in the following areas by physical demonstration or written exam:  Equipment, Age Specific Assessment, and Interventions, Blood Glucose monitoring, EKG procedure, venipuncture, urine testing, and handling of other specimens that may be required.
  1. Reviews, attends, and signs all in-service updates.
  1. Actively participates in own performance appraisal.
  1. In the Emergency Department performs a modified patient assessment relative to presenting compliant, past medical history, allergies, tetanus status, etc.
  1. As assigned monitors inventory in clinics and replaces materials as needed.
