Job Description
Provides guidance and assistance to patients, various internal UMass Memorial staff, physician offices and third party vendors regarding financial assistance programs. Performs a variety of duties to ensure that reimbursement is obtained for medical services provided to the uninsured and underinsured patient population. Processes all necessary paperwork and follow-up for appropriate programs according to state, federal and hospital regulations and policies.
Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Business, Social Services or three years' experience in Healthcare, accounts receivable or related function. Proficient in department collection practices and concepts of third party, bad debt and free care regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state Medical Assistance eligibility regulations and medical terminology. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate effectively with a variety of levels including patients, hospital, and medical staff. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Thorough knowledge of third party insurance. Must be able to cover at other campuses if warranted.
Preferred: 3 years Financial Counseling experience. Demonstrates knowledge of the Division of Health Care and Finance Poliy and MassHealth regulations and eligibility requirements.Ability to work independently, maintain strict confidentiality, withstand pressures that arise in dealing with the public, clinicians, ect. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to multitask. Extensive patient/telephone contact. Cross campus coverage and outreach event coverage.
