Job Description
Functions as the point person for the operating room and sterile processing with the responsibility of monitoring case carts, supply inventory, maintaining instrument par levels in operating room and ensuring the availability of instrument set turnovers for all services in collaboration with the Service Line Managers.
Position Qualifications: Five years previous Sterile Processing experience or equivalent required. Central Service Certification and Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Surgical Instrument Processor (CSIP) Certification required at time of hire, or employee must pass the exam within one year from date of hire.
Position requires in-depth knowledge of a wide variety of surgical instruments and equipment in addition to the knowledge of sterilization standards and procedures, knowledge of Sterile Processing competencies and related medical terminology.
Must have the ability to work well independently without direct supervision, and to adequately use or learn to use the department computerized system and its associated devices. Prior computer knowledge and skills are required. Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Equivalent high school and certificate of completion from an accredited surgical technologist program. Two to Three years of experience as a Surgical Technologist. Thorough knowledge of a specialized and technical field of Surgical Technology as evidenced by successful completion of competencies in all clinical areas and scrubbing for physicians in all clinical areas.
Must maintain AST Membership and/or Certification as a Surgical Technologist and must attend at least 15 hours of documented continuing education per year. Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification every two years.
