The Coding Specialist is responsible for applying diagnostic and procedural codes to patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. The Coding Specialist will abstract pertinent information from outpatient records and assign ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers accordance with Coding Guidelines. This individual will act as a liaison with providers in order to obtain medical information required for diagnosis and procedure coding. The Coding Specialist will assist in staff training, education sessions, and participate in team meetings as needed and requested by management. This individual will work closely with the Patient Accounting Department in resolution of denials, billing, and coding issues. This individual will participate and conduct audits as requested by management.



Job Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required

Must hold at least one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CPC- H, CCS, CCS-P with in one year of hire

Successful completion of screening exam with a passing score of 85% or greater.

Dependable self-starter, able to set priorities, manage multiple data needs, and meet deadlines

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and organizational skills

Ability to work well independently on a team and as a trainer/facilitator



Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM - Flex hours also offered.
