Job Summary The Center for Molecular Oncologic Pathology is a multifaceted cancer research center where cancer researchers can interact, design collaborative experiments and develop technologies and resources need for the completion of project requiring tissue based research. The Center is seeking a highly motivated research fellow to support its varied research efforts aimed at uncovering novel and relevant disease biomarkers, through application of advanced immunohistochemical (IHC) and image analysis modalities. The selected candidate will be a member of a cancer research team whose efforts are primarily focused on tissue based translational research with a strong emphasis on research pathology, IHC and advanced microscopic imaging techniques. A strong interest in emerging image analysis modalities is preferred. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and will have prior research laboratory experience and interests in pathology, histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopic image analysis, and molecular biology. The ability to design and execute experiments is a necessary and critical attribute. Duties will include those that require experience in basic techniques such as tissue processing, embedding and sectioning; tissue staining, laser capture microdissection and immunohistochemistry procedures; RNA/DNA isolation and RT-PCR; cell culture, transfections and gene transfer methods; and western blot analyses. More advanced responsibilities will include developing primary antibody/Q-dot conjugations, light and fluorescence microscopy, and computer aided image analysis using advanced technologies such as digital and spectral image acquisition. The ideal candidate will be well-suited to handle multiple projects simultaneously with careful attention to documenting test results in logbooks and laboratory databases, maintaining laboratory equipment and solutions, and problem solving. A research fellow is expected to present results at laboratory meetings and work collaboratively to support varied research efforts.
Job Qualifications MD or PhD with a strong background in histology, immunochemistry, and patholgy, or a related field.
Schedule Standard work schedule: Monday through Friday but may require working varied hours including nights and weekends to complete experiments and meet deadlines.
