Job Description
Under the direction of the RN circulator as dictated by the standards in the Medicare Conditions of Participation for surgical services, assists surgical team during operative procedures in specialtys most complex cases scrubbing for all physicians in assigned service. Arranges and inventories sterile set up for operations. Assists in preparing moving and positioning patients. Performs sterile scrub procedures and related activities such as preparation and draping the patient and operative area. Passes instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Participates in the turnover of operating rooms.Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of a specialized and technical field of Surgical Technology as evidenced by successful completion of competencies in all clinical areas and scrubbing for physicians in all clinical areas. Equivalent high school and certificate of completion from an accredited surgical technologist program or employment as a Surgical Technologist in a hospital or surgical center during two of the last five years. Two to Three years of experience as a Surgical Technologist including at least one year of current experience on the particular surgical team or equivalent as a Surgical Technologist. Maintains competency in other specialties within department. Maintains AST Membership and/or Certification as a Surgical Technologist and attends at least 15 hours of documented continuing education per year.Previous experience in setting up and assisting with urology office-based procedures such as vasectomies, cystoscopies and working knowledge/familiarity of the instruments, supplies, and equipment involved--required. Previous experience in busy ambulatory setting preferred. Computer experience, especially with Allscripts strongly preferred. Good team player, excellent customer service skills required.
