The academic flagship hospital, Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, plays a critical role in meeting the healthcare needs of residents throughout western New England. With 716-licensed beds, 6,600 employees, and a $750 million operating budget, BMC is the regions only tertiary care referral medical center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Level I Trauma Center. BMC was recently named a Top 40 Hospital by the Leapfrog Group and was designated a Distinguished Performer by Premier in recognition of advances the institution has made in healthcare quality and safety. BMC achieved Magnet designation in nursing in 2006 and was re-designated in 2010. Baystate serves as a regional resource for specialty medical care and research, while providing comprehensive primary medical services to the community.

Baystate Medical Center has major programs in post graduate medical education with residencies in pediatrics, medicine-pediatrics, medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, radiology, pathology, psychiatry, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine, along with 11 fellowship programs. These programs train more than 300 residents and fellows each year. Baystate Medical Center is also a major site for medical student education and serves as the western campus of the Tufts University School of Medicine.

Baystate Health is seeking a Director of Real Estate to play a lead role in its ambulatory sites master plan and managed all leased and sublet properties. As the director of Real Estate, you will be reporting to the Vice President for Clinical, Facilities and Guest Services.

As the Director of Real Estate, you will lead a small department of professionals with room for growth concomitant with portfolio growth.

You will also have the opportunity to influence and lead change through;

Evaluating and analyzing real estate opportunities site selections, negotiations, strategic planning, and disposition requirements.
Representing the health system in real estate analysis, broker selection, coordination of legal counsel, lease negotiations and property acquisitions.
Reviewing portfolio and make recommendations on the elimination of unnecessary properties and identify opportunities to enhance utilization of revenue maximization of existing properties.
Maintenance of an inventory of all off-site properties; tracks lease renewal dates; meets with individuals and departments to determine changing needs that require adding, deleting, expanding, or improving properties.
Partnering with facilities management on operations requirements for identified space.
Development and implementation of real estate policies, procedures and practices.

You will need:

A Bachelor degree in business/real estate or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
7-10 years management experience in real estate management in a large, complex organization, preferably healthcare, managing a multi million dollar real estate portfolio.
Excellent interpersonal skills are required as the incumbent interacts with a wide variety of staff, management and the public.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills are needed to gather and interpret relevant data, identify issues and make sound recommendations.
Strong fiscal and budgetary skills are needed to prepare and be accountable for capital and operating budgets related to projects and purchases.
Effective negotiation skills; politically astute; collaborative style; project management skills; customer service orientation are required.
Proven ability to proactively develop and execute strategy.
