The Associate Infection Control Practitioner assists with the implementation of the Infection Control/ Hospital Epidemiology program by assisting the infection control practitioners and hospital epidemiologists in the roles of the Infection Control/Hospital Epidemiology division in activities including surveillance, data collection, education and research. This position is an entry level position within infection control and on a promotion track to a full Infection Control Practitioner role.
Assists with the day to day activities of the Infection Control/ Hospital Epidemiology division. Utilizes epidemiologic tools to identify patients and personnel at risk of infection, clustering or outbreaks of infections, variation in the levels of nosocomial infections, or single cases of unusual infections.
Assists with the developing and monitoring of activities related to continuous quality assessment and improvement to include but not limited to: surveillance for nosocomial infections, reportable diseases, employee/occupational health and safety. Assists in designing collection, analyzing and presentation of data.
Assists in the maintenance of ongoing formal and informal educational programs for all hospital employees.
Assists in the review and dissemination of new information on infection control to appropriate individuals or departments within the hospital.
Consults health care providers in the assessment and management of patients/employees with infectious or communicable diseases.
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree required .
License required: Registered Nurse, or Medical Technician License or an MPH is required.
1-3 years related work experience required in a tertiary care environment.
Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:At least one year experience in infection control in a tertiary care environment.
Achieve board certification in infection control, demonstrating evidence of knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, public health, and biostatistics within 1-3 years of hire.
