Duties/Responsibilities

Must maintain the confidentiality of all interactions including but not limited to, the privacy and security of patient protected health information ("PHI") and employee information.
Must serve as a role model for compliant behavior consistent with the mission statement, core values, and vision of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth ("BID-Plymouth").
Must maintain good working relationships with all levels of management and staff at BID-Plymouth and other BIDMC related entities and affiliates.
Must keep abreast of applicable rules and regulations changing within the health care industry.

Conducts or assists the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer ("CCPO") with performing internal reviews, research and/or audits to verify compliance with government laws or regulations, insurer rules and/or organizational policies and procedures. Documents results and findings, and organizes data for identification of potential risk areas.

Conducts or assists the CCPO in the review and management of external audits by government or private insurers or other outside agencies, law firms, etc. (eg, - Centers for Medicare and Medicaid or Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim, etc). Verify compliance with insurer rules and regulations organizational policy and procedure. Documents results and findings.

Assists the CCPO in monitoring and identifying potential or actual compliance and/or privacy related risk within the organization.
Works closely with various departments throughout the organization, to reflect trends in practices that may need organizational intervention and/or change.
Receives, investigates and resolves compliance and/or patient privacy related complaints or concerns from patients, families, employees, physicians, insurers, government agencies, etc.

Maintains Compliance & Privacy logs as required by law.
Acts as a System Administrator and as the primary liaison for software uniquely used in the Office of Compliance and Business Conduct (eg, K-Checks, Security Audit Manager, ComplyTrak, etc.)

Assists the CCPO and Department Directors and Managers in compliance or privacy education, training efforts and initiatives including preparation of materials. Will provide training using a variety of methods (eg, face to face training sessions, computer based learning tools, e-mails, newsletter articles, etc.)

Assists the CCPO in developing activities and programs to facilitate a proactive approach to compliance and privacy which is in line with BID-Plymouth's philosophy.
Works in collaboration with the various compliances committees as needed (eg, Management Compliance, Audit, and Risk Committee ("MCAR"), Billing Compliance, Information Protection Committee, etc.).

Works with the CCPO to perform the activities and duties as outlined in the Compliance Plan.
Assists in administrative duties to accomplish the Office of Compliance and Business Conduct department goals.
Works with the BIDMC and other member affiliates on projects, answering questions, etc. as requested by the CCPO.

Must be able to provide own personal transportation and be willing to travel.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills

Strong computer skills related to Microsoft Office applications, Meditech, the Internet and other software applications used by BID-Plymouth required.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work with others in a non-confrontational way is essential.
Excellent presentation and organizational skills required.
Strong understanding of Federal and State Law and insurance company rules and regulations required.
Must be able to work independently, prioritize, multi-task and interact with all levels of hospital staff and external organizations and maintain patient and employee confidentiality at all times.
Must be willing to attend workshops, classes, seminars, etc. as requested.
Membership with a professional affiliation such as HCCA or HFMA beneficial.
Experience in Healthcare Compliance or Privacy highly preferred.

Education Required

Bachelor's Degree required

Related work experience may be considered in addition

Registration/Certification

Certification in Compliance or Privacy required (may be obtained in first 12 months of hire).
