Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Team Leader starts with basis of charge nurse description and includes but is not limited to the following:

Assesses physical, mental, and psychological status of patient using age-appropriate knowledge within obstetrical, postpartum and newborn specialty.

Plans, evaluates and supervises care of all patients within The Birthplace and others as assigned by applying hospital standards in the areas of service, team work, communication, respect for others and time/priority management.

Consistently models effective interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to promote effective collaborative working relationships with all members of the healthcare team to provide excellent service to patients served.

Coordinates and participates in formal and informal educational programs, in-services and performance improvement activities to improve technical skills within and outside of specialty area.

Responsible for continued learning and application to practice within and outside of specialty area demonstrating sound judgment and critical thinking skills.

Responsible for providing patient and family education and updates to population served. May perform real time service recovery.

Work practice reflects philosophy, purpose and policies of the hospital and department based upon evidence based best practices and AWHONN standards.

Collaborates with physicians, specialists, nursing units, admitting and supervisors and all health care team members promoting successful communication that is patient centered.

Meets and collaborates with the UBE to mentor and report on progress of new hires.

Demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with stress relating to the changing organizational environment, personnel and patient care issues.

Participates in the assessment of staff performance, in collaboration with the Manager and/or Director, through contribution to individual staff performance reviews.

Regulatory Readiness crash carts checked, refrigerator checked, ensure equipment does not block egress or fire extinguishers, completes survey readiness checklists.

Maintains listing of materials and equipment and updates staff on any repair and follow-ups. Checks supply inventory for expiration dates at least twice per year.

Assures inventory is performed on all specialty carts and in trauma room, as well as any other areas as needed.

EMTALA ensures all transfer paperwork/process complete.

Chart Audits with in time education to support all documentation.

Attends 90% of team leader and staff meetings.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required

Current Charge Nurse experience required

Minimum of 3 years' experience in an inpatient obstetrical unit.

Current inpatient obstetrical certification or obtained within 6 months of hire

ACLS, NRP required

Competent to scrub and circulate

Recent Electronic Fetal Monitoring Class

BSN required

Preferred skills and education

S.T.A.B.L.E preferred


Current RN License, Massachusetts
