Job Description

The Manager, Professional Practice is responsible for the integration of education and PI into operations, developing/modifying Standards of Care, ensuring staff competency and performance, coordinating regulatory compliance/outcomes and ensuring currency of policies/procedures. Utilizes best practice guidelines, evidence-based research and SHP/QAPI metrics to establish the annual educational plan for the organization. This position facilitates ongoing IS competencies of the staff and provides initial and ongoing education. Maintains knowledge of current laws and regulations of federal, state, and regulatory bodies relative to discipline. Works within those constraints to maintain actions within the hospitals compliance programs.

Major Responsibilities:
Leads complex projects from design, development and implementation of orientation, professional development programs, annual skills, competency initiatives and program evaluation. Focuses on areas of improvement as delineated in reports, HHCAHPs, DPH, Conditions of Participation.
Leads and facilitates the Professional Development team and unit based education team leaders in planning and implementation of educational design and enhancements in order to improve nursing practice of care in the Nursing Department.
Leads full scope Nursing educational plan development project/program management activities (defining, education related to technology changes for the Department of Nursing, quality improvement initiatives, change, opportunity and resource management activities) on complex projects or programs.
Develops and executes project plans, budgets and realistic schedules, project performance standards, and timely status reports to executive leadership. Informs the Chief Nursing Officer/ACNO of any problematic variances in project schedules, budgets, or other clinical education project performance problems, and recommends appropriate solutions.
Regularly communicates project status to project stakeholders including the Nurse Managers, Directors and others through use of reporting tools, and/or oral presentations.
Identifies strategic project/program opportunities and continuous improvement opportunities as well as contributes to the development and execution of strategies and goals for the division.
Facilitates the definition of Nursing education project scope, goals, and deliverables.
Responsible for change management process and managing all aspects of software/hardware/scope change.
Ensures the effectiveness of planning and scheduling of Nursing Educational services within the Nursing Division and with other departments for proper utilization of available resources. Provides hands-on education and guidance as warranted.
Ensures the identification and effective analysis of relevant clinical education and training related to quality improvement initiatives for assigned clients/client groups, and provide effective project management of all Nursing professional development activities.
Ensures that the educational needs of nurses and inter-professional staff are met through effective on-going communications, information sharing and teamwork, and collaborative project planning and execution. Provides guidance to the Nurse Practice Councils and fosters the awareness of relevant patient care issues.
Acts as a resource and support to staff utilizing documentation software program/EPIC.
Leads and facilitates the assessment of the effort required for major educational rollouts related to conversions, regulatory requirements and special projects. Develops, reviews and documents plans and goals to completion in order to meet educational requirements.
Manages RN orientation, annual skills activities, computer based training and didactic sessions.
Utilizes project management methods for the integration and application of required education and training programs.
Maintains knowledge of current nursing practice, patient care products, technology, and makes recommendations for continual improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of care.
Seeks out relevant training material and courses to enhance staff effectiveness and knowledge.
Participates in the pre and post review of standards and regulations and on-site visits for accreditation bodies.
Acts as immediate supervisor to RNs and LPNs during initial three months of orientation.
Maintains accurate and complete education files and records (orientation, continuing education, and annual competency, annual education plans).
Fosters innovative educational solutions in response to nursing care providers needs.
Participates in inter-professional activities to improve patient outcomes
Facilitates development of preceptors and practice council members..

Standard Management Level Responsibilities:
Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.

Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.
