This Manager of Volunteer Services is responsible for the development, strengthening, and maintenance of a volunteer program at Tufts Medical Center Hospitals.
Develops with the support and guidance of the Human Resources Department volunteer program policies and procedures.
Works with physicians, nurses, social workers, and administrators to create varied volunteer opportunities within TMC that are stimulating, rewarding, and enjoyable.
Designs and implements volunteer recruitment programs, which attract a large cross-section of the community. Identifies new populations of potential volunteers (elderly, young business professionals, service organizations) and targets recruitment campaign accordingly. May include advertisements, outreach to schools and community organizations.
Interviews, selects and places all hospital volunteers, and non-standard volunteers, taking into consideration their special talents and motivation for volunteering.
Develops orientation and training programs for all new volunteers including preparation of job descriptions and other written materials to guide volunteers in their job performance.
Schedules, supervises and evaluates volunteers on a regular basis, altering placement or handling disciplinary matters when desirable or necessary.
Ensures that volunteers receive appropriate recognition for their efforts through acknowledgement letters, service awards, and annual recognition event.
Keeps volunteers informed of relevant policies, developments and news of the hospital
Through appropriate, relevant communications channels/platforms.
Educates and trains TMC physicians, nurses, and staff in how to work effectively with volunteers.
Coordinates volunteer participation in special Hospital events and activities.
Organizes and administers the Volunteer office on a daily basis.
Ensures adequate telephone and staffing coverage.
Performs a variety of administrative support services including recording keeping, data base maintenance, preparing correspondence, ordering supplies and updating the volunteer policy and procedure manual.
Builds and maintains contact with pertinent educational institutions at all levels to cultivate ongoing relationships for recruitment of volunteers.
Participates on hospital committees and in professional organizations as requested.
Performs other job related duties as requested or required.
Bachelors degree or equivalent required.
3+ years of experience in a volunteer program of similar size and complexity.
Strong customer service skills required.
Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and organizational skills required.
