Baystate Medical Centers new high-tech inpatient pharmacy is raising the bar on safety and quality patient care, while serving all patients admitted to the hospital for a procedure or an extended stay. Our inpatient pharmacy dispenses medications to the operating rooms, and emergency, critical care, pediatrics, general medicine and infusion departments. The state-of-the-art, 12,000 square foot pharmacy was designed with patient safety, security and best practices in mind, while focusing on sterile compounding, with 2 clean rooms; oral compounding, offering a facility for pharmacy technicians a space to prepare necessary compounds that may not be commercially available, safely; and carousel and barcode technology, to monitor and manage inventory.

What you will do

The Pharmacy Practice Residency is a twelve-month stipend-based program designed and structured to provide the organized health care practice community and the pharmacy profession with knowledgeable, creative, and resourceful practitioners who can provide direct patient care services in an institutional practice environment. It supplements an academic pharmacy education and provides the opportunity and necessary stimulus for graduate pharmacists to develop their knowledge and expertise in the provision of pharmaceutical care. The program is flexibly designed to accommodate the training needs of Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) graduates through required and elective rotations. The resident will also learn how to interact effectively with the multidisciplinary members of the health care team including social workers, nurses, therapists, etc..

The Pharmacy Practice Residency program will enable the resident to further develop their skills and competency in the pharmacy practice areas of acute patient care, drug information and drug use policy development, ambulatory patient care, and health-system pharmacy management. Teaching skills in both the didactic and experiential training setting will also be developed through interaction and mentoring of Doctor of Pharmacy students. This residency program will provide a foundation for further training in a specialized residency or fellowship.

What you will need

The Pharmacy Practice Residency program is in compliance with the approved program requirements and has accreditation through the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists. The resident must have graduated from an approved college of pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science or PharmD program and be eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
